Do you sit a lot at your job or in your home office? If so, it could be causing painful conditions.
Many Americans spend too much time sitting at work, tethered to computer workstations. Sitting too much can cause some serious musculoskeletal injuries and pain, but some believe it can even reduce life span.
Sitting for more than 11 hours a day can increase the risk of death by 40 percent, according to Dr. Hidde van der Ploeg, a senior researcher at the University of Sydney. He says it increases triglyceride levels and cholesterol, causing metabolic problems and thicker waistlines.
Sitting too much can cause leg pain, joint pain, back pain, and other problems.
Many recommend a 50:50 sit/stand ratio or at least two to four hours of standing per day.
So, make time to stand and stretch regularly for long periods of time. Consider getting a standing desk or mobile apps to remind you to stand regularly and achieve a “steps” goal for the day.
