According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the most common workplace injuries requiring days away from work were the result of sprains, strains and tears. More than 38% of the nation’s office and work injuries fell into these categories.
And improper lifting was often the culprit, as shown in the bureau’s chart.
They report that “overexertion in lifting and lowering” was the most common cause of back injury, with slips, falls, and other incidents also causing pain-inducing harm.
At our Greater Philadelphia pain management centers, we treat a number of patients each year, who have suffered from injuries of this sort. They can cause days away from work, significant pain, and a challenging road back to full productivity, but our team of medical professionals is skilled at helping those who suffer this kind of painful incident.
It’s best to avoid the injury in the first place, of course, by lifting items properly…with your lower body and not your back…but if you suffer a sprain, strain, tear or back/muscle injury from a workplace occurrence, please contact one of our Philadelphia locations to make an appointment and learn how we can help.
